Course Description

A study of aviation maintenance for pilots and non-maintenance personnel covering how various maintenance departments are structured depending on the operations they support, universal standards for interacting and communicating with a maintenance department, the maintenance requirements of an aircraft when under various operating rules, and other maintenance-related tasks.(Fall, Spring, Summer) [Graded (Standard Letter)]

Learning Outcomes

STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES 

At the completion of this course the learners will be able to:
·       Adhere to aviation industry certification, maintenance operating requirements, and FAA regulations.
·       Define and document maintenance and inspection activities.
·       Work effectively with maintenance personnel and departments.
·       Understand the training requirements for aviation maintenance personnel.
·       Identify and monitor maintenance program problems and trends.
·       Line and hangar maintenance functions.
·       Provide flight department support for maintenance personnel.

Instructor's policies on late assignments and/or makeup work

LATE AND MISSING WORK

I am expecting that all course work will be submitted on time per the course schedule.

Discussion Questions. The purpose of a discussion question is to engage the class. After the assignment has been closed there can no longer be class discussions. Discussion questions cannot be made up after the assignment has been closed.

Written Assignments. Written assignments that are submitted up to a week late will be awarded a maximum of 50% of the possible points. Written assignments that are more than a week late will not be accepted.

Quizzes. Quizzes that are submitted up to a week late will be awarded a maximum of 50% of the possible points. Quizzes that are more than a week late will not be accepted.

Final Exam. Due to the limited time available for submitting final course grades, final exams will not be accepted late.

Online course - no attendance required.

Course Fees

3.75 per credit hour.

Academic Credit

According to the federal definition of a Carnegie credit hour: A credit hour of work is the equivalent of approximately 60 minutes of class time or independent study work. A minimum of 45 hours of work by each student is required for each unit of credit. Credit is earned only when course requirements are met. One (1) credit hour is equivalent to 15 contact hours of lecture, discussion, testing, evaluation, or seminar, as well as 30 hours of student homework. An equivalent amount of work is expected for laboratory work, internships, practica, studio, and other academic work leading to the awarding of credit hours. Credit granted for individual courses, labs, or studio classes ranges from 0.5 to 15 credit hours per semester.

Academic Misconduct

Scholastic honesty is expected of all students. Dishonesty will not be tolerated and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent (see SUU Policy 6.33).
