GE Learning Outcomes
This course satisfies the Quantitative Literacy (QL) requirement for General Education. The course is tailored to a general audience.
Quantitative Literacy: Upon successful completion of the Quantitative Literacy requirement, students will be able to:
1. (CLOs 1-8) Communicate: Use correct terminology and proper notation to explain quantitative or mathematical relationships (equations, graphs, diagrams, tables, data) and to support an argument, assertion, or purpose using quantitative or mathematical evidence
2. (CLOs 1-8) Mathematization: Convert quantitative or mathematical information into appropriate mathematical representations and/or models such as equations, graphs, diagrams, or tables, including making and evaluating important assumptions as needed
3. (CLOs 2-8) Calculation: Use algebraic skills and techniques to solve problems, including the ability to identify and correct errors in calculations and understanding the role and proper use of technology in assisting with calculations
4. (CLOs 2, 5-8) Analysis: Draw appropriate conclusions through quantitative or mathematical analysis of data or models, including understanding and evaluating important assumptions in order to recognize the limits of the analysis
5. (CLOs 2-8) Application / Creation: Solve concrete and abstract problems across multiple disciplines.
This course requires students to represent data using various statistics and graphs. Students use precise notation and verbiage to explain relationships and support inferences. Students master hypothesis testing and computational techniques to solve problems in many different real-world contexts.
All Quantitative Literacy Learning Outcomes are Assessed using Homework, Exams, and Projects.
