Assignment Outline

Preparation, participation, and attendance - 20%

Class attendance, personal preparation, quizzes, and participation in class activities are integral to the successful completion of Nursing 4322. A significant amount of learning will occur through pre-class preparation, participation in class activities, and collaboration with class members. It is essential for participants to have read the assigned material and to have completed the assignments to participate in meaningful discussion and learning. Active learning is enhanced through discussion and group activities. Thus, each student bears responsibility for contributing to group learning, with faculty as facilitator of learning.

Students are responsible for attending each class session and participating in group learning activities and discussions. Cell phones must be silenced before class; they disrupt students and faculty. If a student is found to be using a laptop computer for things that are not class-related, student will be asked to turn it OFF. Please respect the Instructor and fellow students when using electronics during class.

Class Assignments - 25%

Worksheets or assignments will occur throughout the semester. You will have six worksheets that need to be handwritten and then submitted in Canvas. Check Canvas for due dates. You will have 3 ATI modules that will be due throughout the semester. The score you submit for the ATI’s will be the score you receive. You will also have HURST questions that will be due each week, 25 questions per week. Check on Canvas for the subject material. Assignments will be graded within 1 week of the due date.

Postpartum Client and Family Education Presentation - 20%

Professional baccalaureate nurses are responsible for their clients' current knowledge of the various trends and issues facing postpartum clients and their families. Family nursing care is evolving in response to societal changes and consumer demands. The nuclear family is no longer the predominant family structure, creating a need for nurses to understand current trends that impact the immediate patient in their care and the family and family function in general.

Directions:

  1. Prepare a presentation centered on the discharge needs of the postpartum client; you need to look/act professional during the presentation (no holey clothes, shorts, hats, etc.
  2. Make sure you focus the teaching on the postpartum patient and family not nursing students.
  3. Research evidenced-based information; utilize your ATI book.
  4. Develop a presentation for the postpartum client, including 1 self-care measure (doesn't have to relate to your topic) with necessary teaching.
  5. Utilize various teaching techniques (handout, pamphlet, speaking, visual, etc). Handouts, if used, must be created by the students.
  6. Demonstrate knowledge and be able to answer questions posed by the instructor and fellow students.
  7. Presentations are between 10-15 minutes.
  8. Each group member will complete a peer evaluation on each group member and submit it in this assignment. Peer Evaluation The peer evaluations must be submitted by 0800 on the day you present. Submit to Professor: The presentation needs to be submitted by 0800 on the day of the event

Exam - 10%

You will have 1 exam throughout the semester. It will be comprehensive at the end of the semester.

ATI - 25%

You will take the RN Maternal Newborn Online Practice 2026 A in the second week of school; you only get one try and 1 minute per question (if you miss these parameters, you will complete the success plan regardless of your score). You will submit that score. If you get less than 65% on the practice assessment, you must meet with the Professor and develop a success plan. This success plan is to help you be successful. The following ATI Assessment Exams will be administered during the Semester. If you don’t complete the success plan you cannot take the 1st ATI. You must submit a ticket for each test with a 90% score. The test can only be taken every 24 hours; you will receive a 0 on the Proctored exam if your ticket is not submitted before the test.

ATI Assessment

  • 1. Maternal/Newborn Test 1 N4322 10/28
  • 2. Maternal/Newborn Test 2 N4322 12/15

The 1st ATI test represents 10% of the course grade. The 2nd ATI represents 15% of the course grade.

Scoring for proficiency level is:

For students that reach Level 3, their grade will be
86% - 100.0% proficiency equals 100%.
82.0% - 85.9% proficiency equals 94%

For students that reach Level 2, their grade will be
77% - 81.9% proficiency equals 90%
72% - 76.9% proficiency equals 87%
68.3% - 71.9% proficiency equals 85%

For students that reach Level 1, their grade will be
64.0% - 68.2% proficiency equals 81%
60.4% - 63.9% proficiency equals 78%
56.1% - 60.3% proficiency equals 75%

For students that reach a below level 1, their grade will be
0%

If you are late to the test and the door is closed you will need to contact the Professor to set up a time to take the test, do not knock or open the door. You will receive a 10% grade reduction if you miss the scheduled time.

Students who get a Below Level 1 must do remediation. If you don’t complete the remediation plan you cannot take the second ATI. If you have a below level 1 on either ATI and achieve a Level 1 on an ATI, your below ATI score will be adjusted to the score you received on that ATI; if you get Level 2, the low score will be adjusted to 70%. If you get a below for both ATI's you will receive a zero on both ATI's.
