Quizzes
Availability: All quizzes will open on the first day of the semester. Each quiz must be completed by Sunday at 11:59 p.m. during the week the content is assigned. Format: Each quiz consists of 10 questions and is timed at 30 minutes. You may review and change your answers before final submission. All quizzes are open-book and open-notes, but timed at 30 minutes. Attempts: Students are allowed one attempt for each quiz; however, they may earn back up to half of the points missed by completing a “quiz make-up assignment”. To complete the assignment, students must review their quiz and create a Word document that includes each missed question, their selected response, the correct response, an explanation of why their answer was incorrect, and a detailed rationale explaining why the correct answer is accurate. Both explanations are required to receive maximum credit. The completed document must be submitted through the “Assignment” tool in Canvas, and all quiz make-up assignments are due by Sunday at 11:59 p.m. following the original quiz deadline. Closing Time: Quizzes will automatically close on the following Sunday at 11:59 p.m. of the assigned week and will not be accessible after that time. It is the student’s responsibility to monitor all due dates, complete quizzes, and make up quizzes accordingly.
Case Studies
There will be one case study assignments in this course designed to strengthen your clinical reasoning, critical thinking, and application of pathophysiology concepts to patient care scenarios. The first case study will be due around mid-semester, and the second case study will be due before the final week of the course. These assignments will require you to analyze patient presentations, interpret clinical findings, connect pathophysiologic mechanisms to disease processes, and apply evidence-based decision-making in the management of patient conditions. Please refer to the course schedule and assignment instructions for specific due dates, submission requirements, and formatting expectations. Students are strongly encouraged to carefully review the grading rubric before submitting each assignment, as all case studies will be evaluated according to the rubric criteria.
Advanced Pathophysiology Discussion Assignment
Each student will select a unique disease process, disorder, or pathophysiologic condition and post their chosen topic under the appropriate discussion area before completing the written assignment for grading. The purpose of this assignment is to enrich the learning experience of the class by exploring topics that are not extensively covered within the course lectures or weekly modules. The discussion assignment should demonstrate a thorough understanding of the disease process, including the etiology, pathophysiology, clinical manifestations, diagnostic findings, risk factors, complications, and current evidence-based management or treatment approaches when applicable. Students are expected to integrate scholarly sources and apply graduate-level critical thinking throughout the paper. All assignments must be written in APA 7th edition format, including proper in-text citations and references. Please carefully review the assignment rubric before submitting your paper, as all assignments will be graded according to the rubric criteria. Please note that each student is required to select and complete only one discussion topic for the entire semester.
Weekly Discussion Topic
Once the Advanced Pathophysiology Discussion Assignment has been submitted for grading, students should copy and paste their completed assignment into the corresponding discussion forum so that their classmates can read and learn from the topic. The purpose of this activity is to enrich the course by exposing students to additional disease processes and pathophysiologic conditions beyond those covered in class. Students are encouraged to read and engage with multiple discussion topics throughout the semester to broaden their understanding of advanced pathophysiology concepts. Please note that each student is required to select and complete only one discussion topic for the entire semester.
My Top 10 Discussion Assignment
As part of this assignment, each student is required to read at least 10 discussion topics submitted by classmates throughout the semester. The purpose of this activity is to expose students to a variety of disease processes, clinical conditions, and advanced pathophysiological concepts beyond those covered in lectures and weekly modules. This assignment is designed to encourage collaborative learning and broaden your understanding of diverse health conditions and current evidence-based practices. A document file has been provided under the assignment tab where students will record the title of each discussion topic they read, along with the date it was reviewed. After completing all 10 topics, students must sign the document and submit it through Canvas for grading. Please note that students are not required to reply to or comment on the discussion topics. The primary goal is active engagement through reading and learning from your peers’ work.
Midterm and Final Examinations
The Midterm and Final Examinations are designed to assess your comprehension, retention, and application of the key concepts presented throughout the course. Both examinations are closed book and will be administered using Honorlock, an online remote proctoring service that helps maintain academic integrity during testing. Each examination will consist of approximately 50 questions, and students will have 100 minutes to complete each exam. The examinations will primarily include multiple-choice questions, along with a limited number of true/false and matching questions. Questions are designed not only to evaluate recall of important concepts, but also to assess your ability to apply pathophysiologic principles to clinical scenarios and patient-centered situations commonly encountered in advanced nursing practice. Students are expected to complete the exams independently without the use of textbooks, notes, internet searches, AI-generated assistance, or outside resources. Honorlock will record your testing session through your webcam, microphone, and screen activity to ensure testing integrity. Students should ensure they have a reliable internet connection, a working webcam and microphone, and a quiet testing environment before beginning the examination.
